Meet Virginia

Virginia Sargent portrait

Hi, I'm Virginia! I became a birth doula shortly after the birth of my daughter in 2021. Having continuous, knowledgeable, and gentle support from two doulas (a primary and back-up doula!) during her birth resulted in such an empowering birth experience for me and my partner. I felt like her birth opened up a whole new part of my heart while simultaneously rocking my body and mind. In the tender newborn days following her birth, I constantly referred back to the support and love we received from our doulas. It takes so much patience and presence to facilitate a nurturing birth environment, and I really felt our doulas gave me their full patience and presence during labor. The same was true from our doula during the birth of my son in 2024.

My birth experiences inspired me to become a doula and provide the same grounded presence to you and your family.  I am so grateful for all that I've learned from each birth I've supported and for the trust and friendships built with my doula clients in the process.

I also teach HypnoBirthing courses and encourage my doula clients to learn about birth through any and all evidence-based resources that resonate with them. A calm and empowered birthing experience begins with knowledge. When the birthing process takes unexpected twists and turns, including into the operating room, I firmly believe that birth can be an empowering and positive experience when you make the right decisions for you at the right time--even when they aren't the ones you thought you'd make or what you wrote down before hand. I love combining education with hands-on birth support.

Outside of birthwork, I live in Longmont with my husband and our two children on our regenerative ranch (Longroots Ranch). I've learned a lot about instinctive birth from witnessing our ranch animals give birth too!

Values

Doulas play an important role in fighting for reproductive justice. I bring a clear set of values to the work I do as a doula and believe:

  • Everyone should have access to a doula; the presence of a doula at birth improves outcomes and reduces maternal health disparities.

  • Access to healthcare is a human right, including access to safe, legal abortion.

  • Society should nurture and care for birthing people and their partners with ample time to focus solely on their family and their immediate needs after birth.

I am committed to advocating for systemic changes needed to create a world where these values are a reality. â€‹
